What is Pass Plus?

Pass Plus is a scheme for new and inexperienced drivers backed by the Government's Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and certain insurance companies. Please check with your insurance company if they are part of the Pass Plus scheme before booking your course. However it is still worth doing the course even if you don't qualify for a discount. Your life cannot have a price!!

It has been proven that within the first 2 years of passing a driving test you are more likely to have an accident then any other time in your driving career. This is why the scheme has been developed. The main aim of this course is to promote positive driving, to get you away from the "driving like a learner" stereotype. It will also be your first introduction to motorway driving. You can take the course at any time within the first 12 months of passing your test.

What is the cost?

A Pass Plus course with Drive Safe costs 150 for Drive Safe Pupils and 160 for non Drive Safe Pupils. You will cover a given module set out as standard by the DSA, there are 6 modules covering 6 elements and will last at least 6 hours covering somewhere in the region of 160-200 miles. Your driving will be continually assessed and you must successfully complete all the modules in the course to an achieved or exceeded standard:

Achieved successfully reached the standard required for each of the competencies.

Exceeded exceeded the required standard for each of the competencies

In exceptional circumstances, if a module can't be done on the road it will be covered in a theory session. The highest level you can reach is 'achieved' as you've not been able to demonstrate the relevant practical skills (these are normally adverse weather condition modules). Each module is at least 1 hr long.

Motorway Driving                    Night Driving

All Weather Driving                  Town Driving Part 2

Dual Carriageway Driving         Rural Road Driving

What will the benefits of doing the course be?

Insurance companies offer as much as 30-35% discount from your first years insurance premium. Example from one of our pupils was her insurance premium was 990 for a Fiat Punto, with Virgin Insurance. After completing the Pass Plus course she had a reduction of 420, take off the cost of the course and she made a saving of 275 and gained the extra knowledge and skill to become a safer driver.

Who does the course? Is it an examiner from the DSA?

No, you will go out on the course with an instructor from Drive Safe who has been Pass Plus registered with the DSA and therefore fully qualified to teach the modules. At the end of the course the instructor will, along with you sign the declaration form, we will then send it to the DSA in Nottingham, they then send direct to you the certificate for you pass onto your insurance company to gain your discount.

Remember you only have the first 12 months of passing your practical driving test to arrange and complete the course. If your not too concerned about having a certificate and only want to learn about motorway driving we do offer a 3 hour motorway course on it's own.
